We Cut the AI Maturity Score to 8 Questions. Here’s Why.

We Cut the AI Maturity Score to 8 Questions. Here's Why.

The free AI Maturity Score used to take about ten minutes. For an executive director opening the link on a phone between meetings, ten minutes is a real ask, and many people who started it never finished.

We took that seriously. Feedback on a free tool is easy to nod at and harder to act on, so we went back through the whole experience: the length, the wording, the emails people received afterward, and the links inside them. Then we changed it. Taking the AI Maturity Score to 8 Questions was the result.

The Score now has 8 questions and takes about 2 minutes. The result is the same: a score out of 100 and the same three ranges, AI Governance Starter, Builder and Leader. What changed is how much it asks of you, and how clearly it answers.

Here is what is different:

  1. Eight questions, about two minutes. Two each on AI awareness and usage, operations and workflow, data and technology, and policy and governance. Every question has plain-language answer choices. No typing, no looking up documents.
  2. Four areas, each out of 25. Your emailed result shows all four on the same scale, so you can see at a glance where you are strong and where you are exposed.
  3. A next step that fits where you landed. Each range gets its own short explanation. Starter: put a written AI policy in place. Builder: formalize what is already working. Leader: lock it in and keep it current.
  4. Links that work and wording that agrees. The time we promise, the number of questions, the page copy and the emails now say the same thing. The policy button in your result email opens our AI Services page (amsnow.io/ai-services/), and the book link is current.
  5. A real person on the other end. Four days after your result, you get a short note asking whether you have questions about your score, with a link to book a free conversation with me. No sales pressure.

A shorter Score is also a rougher read. Two questions per area gives you a quick picture, not a full audit. Think of it as an invitation to a conversation. Anything we need for a policy or a project comes later, in intake or in that conversation, when it is worth your time.

Most associations have the same experience with their own members: the forms that ask too much go unfinished. We would rather meet you where you are. We will keep watching how many people finish the Score and what happens after, and we will keep changing it based on what we hear.

What to do with your result

A score is only useful if it points somewhere. If you land in Starter, the most useful next move is usually a written AI policy, because staff are likely already using AI tools whether or not leadership has said anything about it. If you land in Builder, good habits are probably forming in pockets, and the work is to formalize them so they hold up as people and tools change. If you land in Leader, the job is to keep your policy current as the technology moves.

None of these ranges is a grade. They are a way to start an honest conversation about AI governance for associations, at a size and pace your team can actually handle. If your result raises questions, that is exactly what the follow-up note and the free conversation are for.

The AI Maturity Score to 8 Questions now takes about two minutes.
