Every association I talk to is running into the same five problems with AI — just in a different order.
Staff are already using AI tools without anyone tracking it. Sensitive member and donor data is one careless prompt away from ending up somewhere it shouldn’t. Boards are stuck between doing nothing and approving whatever gets pitched to them, because nobody’s told them how to evaluate it. Small teams want to move carefully but don’t have anyone whose job it is to figure this out. And staff are quietly worried that AI-written communications will feel less like the association and more like a template.
None of these are hypothetical. They’re what’s actually showing up when I talk to association executives.
Starting next week, I’m breaking each one down — what it actually looks like inside an association, and what fixes it. First up: the one almost nobody has visibility into yet.
